one food lover was inspired to create an exciting recipe for a fun loving, tradition hugging, and authentic street food producing enterprise.
Jason, the spirited young creator of Mauritian Street Food was brought up in a traditional Mauritian
household, in the UK. Where he was and still is inspired by his mother
Jamilla,
whose homemade cooking has given him a great passion for Mauritian cuisine and the all-important secret recipes!
If
you don’t know much about Mauritius, it’s a melting pot of a variety of
cultures and it’s reflected in every mouth-watering dish, with a mix of
African, European and Asian flavours.
If
you’d like to taste real Mauritian Street Food, you can find us at food festivals
and markets around the country. And if you want us all to yourself, we also
cater for private functions.
The
two main dishes that we currently serve are Du Pan Frier, a delicious crispy
chickpea bread. It’s enough to whet your appetite for Roti Chaud, which is
essentially a Mauritian Wrap. It’s filled with Grois Pois (butter bean curry)
& Rougialle (tomato-based sauce) that’s all wrapped together in a hot roti
that’s made the traditional way – flour that’s rolled flat and cooked on a Tawa
(flat metal plate). The traditional Mauritian Rotis are extremely popular on
the streets of Mauritius, especially for people on the go!
We
are also currently developing sauces and pastes that anyone can use at home.
So, please keep your eyes peeled for our expanding product range, which already
includes Garlic & Ginger Paste, perfect for curries, stir fries and
marinades. And it will be available from our online shop soon.
We
simply love bringing the delights of Mauritius to the food lovers of the UK.
And we believe its tantalising food will leave a lasting impression, just as the inviting white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters of Mauritius have done for generations.
